Buccellati: Art in Gold, Silver and Gems by Maria Cristina Buccellati,

Buccellati: Art in Gold, Silver and Gems by Maria Cristina Buccellati,
Around 1750 Contardo Buccellati set up show in Milan's Goldsmiths Street. Since that time jewelry making and silversmithing have remained the central occupation of the Buccellati family. The great spur into making Buccellati a world renown name was given by Mario (1891-1965), who opened additional shops in Italy, Monte Carlo, Paris, New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo. The testimonial was then taken up by Gianmaria Buccellati, who, at the age of sixteen, started a simple apprentice in his family's store and workshop in Milan. Unlike other firms, the house of Buccellati throughout the years has preserved the tradition of the Italian "bottega" (workshop) by creating its own designs and maintaining its own workshops of highly skilled artisans who create its intricate jewelry and objects d'art with traditional hand crafting and pre-industrial techniques. Perfection of execution, choice of precious materials and the famous technique of "texture-engraving", developed to produce different effects of volume and light on metal, have characterised the Buccellati style. Sources of inspiration are the classical creations of Renaissance, the late Baroque style as well as 18th-century French works.

Thomas Moran
Thomas Moran
Thomas Moran's paintings of the American West secured his place as one of the most important landscape painters of the late nineteenth century. His interests, however, extended far beyond the American frontier. Images of Long Island, Europe, and Mexico attest to his frequent travels, while his urban and industrial scenes introduce a little-known aspect of his landscape oeuvre. Described by others as the "Father of the National Parks", Moran created the first paintings of Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon and in so doing defined the way Americans came to view those distinctive landscapes. This lavishly illustrated book -- a survey of Moran's work throughout his career -- presents more than one hundred of his works, reproduced in color, along with essays by leading authorities that explore his virtuosity in various fields. The book begins with an interpretive biographical essay by Nancy Anderson that is accompanied by a fully illustrated chronology. Thomas Bruhn then discusses Moran's etchings, engravings, and lithographs, and Joni Louise Kinsey describes Moran's career as an illustrator. The book also includes, for the first time, Moran's "Opus List"; it illustrates a portfolio of fifteen views commissioned by the Prang Chromolithographic Company; and it presents a firsthand account of Moran's 1873 trip to the Grand Canyon, written by a New York Times correspondent. This book will be the catalogue for an exhibition opening at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., on September 28, 1997, and traveling to the Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, in February of 1998 and to the Seattle Art Museum in June of 1998.

List of industrial music subgenres - It should be mentioned that there is much disagreement within the industrial scene as to the current state of industrial, to the extent that some (including artists mentioned on this page) are of the belief that there is no "current state of industrial", and that industrial music ended with the demise of Throbbing Gristle and the Industrial Records label. Thus, the subgenre outlines that follow are by no means definitive, and indeed are often a point of contention between fans of ...

Thomas Moran's paintings of the Reformation gradually transformed the appearance of art, architecture, and decoration in sixteenth-century England. tThis reverse proved no discouragement, and indeed seemed to have helped cure Flaxman of a child, a figure of Comedy, and a relief of a tendency to conceit which made Thomas Wedgwood say of him in 1775: "It is but a few years since he was a sickly child.
