Map Direction
Road Maps: Directions for Living To help us avoid mishaps and keep us on the right road, we use road maps. Whether they are crudely drawn on the back of a napkin or contained inside a space-age GPS system, maps give direction. Road Maps will help you re-acquaint yourself with God's road map for your life found between the Bible's covers.
Magellan Direct Route Turn-by-turn directions: Enter your destination and MapSend DirectRoute automatically calculates shortest time street routing, giving you turn-by-turn directions that can be viewed on your map screen or in a route list. Shortest time: routing is based on the length of various street path choices and the posted speed limits on these street paths. Visual and audio prompts: As you walk, ride or drive the city streets, MapSend DirectRoute beeps and the screen shows a visual prompt to let you know when to make the next turn. Three ways to enter your destination: 1) Enter your destination using the GOTO key on your Magellan GPS handheld receiver; 2) Select from a list of Points of Interest (POI); e.g. ATMs, Gas Stations, Hotels, etc. or 3) Key in a street name or address: Use the cursor to pinpoint your destination on the map. Easy rerouting: If you miss a turn or take a detour, the GOTO key on your Magellan GPS handheld receiver will quickly recalculate your route. Comprehensive maps: It's easy to define regions on your PC and download detailed street: level maps of the U.S. and Canada1 (Europe coming soon) in areas as large as 64 MB.
Amateur Radio Direction Finding - Amateur Radio Direction Finding is an amateur map and compass sport that combines the skills of orienteering and radio direction finding. It is a timed race in which individual competitors use a topographic map and a magnetic compass to navigate through diverse wooded terrain while searching for radio transmitters. Topological map - In cartography and geology, a topological map refers to a map that has been simplified so that only vital information remains and unnecessary detail has been removed. These maps lack scale, and distance and direction are subject to change and variation, but the relationship between points is maintained. Littrow projection - The Littrow projection is the only conformal retroazimuthal map projection. A retroazimuthal projection is one in which the direction to a fixed location B (the bearing at the starting location A of the shortest route) corresponds to the direction on the map from A to B. Grid north - Grid north is a navigational term referring to the direction northwards along the grid lines of a map projection. It is contrasted with true north (the direction of the North Pole) and magnetic north (the direction of the Magnetic North Pole).

Metric properties of maps Many properties can be expressed mathematically. transform geographic coordinates (longitude and latitude) to plane coordinates (eastings and northings or x,y). selection of a projection may be mathematical, graphical, or geometric. Metric properties of maps Many properties can be constructed to preserve one or some of these properties, though not all of them simultaneously. Hybrid approaches combining features of both also exist. This book is the first step, in which an approximating, regular model is chosen. On small areas (large scale) data compatibility issues are more important since metric distortions are minimal at this level. These useful traits of flat maps motivate the development of map projections.
